No, Kim Davis is not like Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks: jailed for DEMANDING the same rights white people enjoyed.

Kim Davis: jailed for DENYING gay people the rights she herself enjoys.

Cliven Bundy compared himself to Rosa Parks. Really, he did. And the The Everlasting GOP Stoppers page explains very simply how wrong this is.

Is Ted Nugent Asshole of the Day (again)?

image

Is Ted Nugent asshole of the day for comparing his fight against gun control to Rosa Parks’ fight against segregation?

In his March 26 column, Nugent wrote, “If anyone believes that gun confiscation is not a real threat here in America or that it couldn’t happen here like it did in the U.K. and Australia, just look to what is happening in Connecticut.” Connecticut’s new law prohibits the future purchase of assault weapons and requires current owners of assault weapons to register their guns. Despite a federal court ruling that the law is a constitutional means of regulating weapons under the Second Amendment, thousands of gun owners are reportedly refusing to register their weapons.

Nugent, who is also a spokesperson for the Outdoor Channel, went on to compare the supposed plight of gun owners to the experiences of victims of racial discrimination who fought against segregation:

In 1955, my hero, Rosa Parks, refused to give up her seat on a city bus. Good for her. In 2014, gun owners must learn from Rosa Parks and definitely refuse to give up our guns. As Rosa Parks once said, “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”

Nugent has previously claimed, “I’m Rosa Parks with a Gibson,” and has called for gun owners to “sit down on the front seat of the bus.” He also considers himself an “anti-racist” and believes "racism against blacks was gone" by the 1970s.

But Nugent offered a lengthy defense of racial segregation in South Africa during a 1990 interview with theDetroit Free Press Magazine, arguing that, “Apartheid isn’t that cut-and-dry. All men are not created equal,” and claiming that the indigenous people of South Africa are a “different breed of man,” because, among other reasons, “[t]hey still put bones in their noses”

For someone as racist as Ted Nugent to compare himself to Rosa Parks is just so ridiculous. This is a man who says blacks can solve their problems by being law-abiding and getting alarm clocks. And who calls the president a “subhuman mongrel”, but when forced to apologize, apologizes to Greg Abbott and not to the president

But this isn’t even the first time he’s compared himself to Rosa Parks. Last summer he called himself “Rosa Parks with a Gibson”. He must really admire her.

Too bad she isn’t around today so she could say, “you know nothing of my work.”

This also recalls the time Rick Santorum compared his fight against Obamacare to Nelson Mandela’s fight against apartheid, even though it under Nelson Mandela South Africa got socialized healthcare. True story.

Asshole of the Day, December 20, 2013: Ian Bayne

by TeaPartyCat ()

When I heard that someone had compared yesterday’s Asshole of the Day Phil Robertson to Rosa Parks, I thought it was a joke. Turns out I was wrong:

In a fundraising email to supporters, Ian Bayne, who is running in the Republican primary to challenge Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL) in the 11th District, compared Robertson to Rosa Parks. The fundraising email began: “Today, Ian Bayne called Phil Robertson, star of the A&E series “Duck Dynasty,” the ‘Rosa Parks’ of our generation.”

“In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,” Bayne wrote in the email. “What Parks did was courageous.”

Bayne added in the email that “what Robertson did was courageous too.”

And despite the outcry over how ridiculously wrong and possibly racist this is, he’s bragging about it on his website.

Look, asshole, Rosa Parks was someone who acted to help her oppressed people. Phil Robertson is a multimillionaire who is whining that not enough people are being oppressed, including black people like Rosa Parks. Yes, that’s right– Phil Roberts said black people were happier and better off under Jim Crow, the very oppressive laws Rosa Parks was fighting! So comparing them is the most ridiculous thing in the world, and makes anyone who tries the Asshole of the Day.

It is Ian Bayne’s first time as Asshole of the Day. And of course here is Blabberazzi.com’s writeup of Phil Robertson as Asshole of the Day from yesterday.

For a satirical take on the conservative outrage over Phil Robertson’s free speech rights, here’s something I wrote yesterday:

Suspending Phil Robertson Violates The First Amendment! But, good news, here’s what YOU can do to fight back

Is Ted Nugent Asshole of the Day (again)?

Is Ted Nugent asshole of the day for saying “I’m Rosa Parks With A Gibson”?

Yesterday he wrote:

In an October 30 column, Nugent called Parks his “hero" for exercising her First Amendment rights and referenced his celebrity as a guitar player to write, "I’m Rosa Parks with a Gibson”:

Heavily armed with whatever media bully pulpit I can muster, I exercise my First Amendment rights like my hero Rosa Parks who refused to sit at the back of the bus when that numb-nut law existed. I’m Rosa Parks with a Gibson.

Look, asshole, you don’t get to claim you’re like one of the greatest civil rights heroes of the 20th century when you go around saying things like this (which he was named Asshole of the Day for) he can “fix the black problem” if they only just get alarm clocks and try to be “honest and law-abiding”, which he’s clearly saying they don’t do now. That whole rant is quite a mess of racism denying it is racism and victim-blaming. I encourage you to go read it.
