More about what an asshole Rudy Giuliani is

Yesterday we named Giuliani Asshole of the Day for disparaging Obama for not being raised right and not loving America.

Giuliani then went on not to apologize, but to keep saying it, deny he said anything wrong, etc.

So then today New York journalist Wayne Barrett details all the problems with that, including:

  • Giuliani’s dad worked for the mob, served time, and dodged the draft
  • Giuliani also avoided the draft repeatedly, I guess because he loves America so much
  • Giuliani has done work shilling for Yemen and other enemies of America
  • Giuliani loved his wife Donna Hanover so much that she found out he was divorcing her from a press conference

And so much more. Read the whole thing. It’s epic.

Rudy Giuliani, Asshole of the Day for February 19, 2015

Ever since police shootings and racist policing returned to the news last summer, Rudy Giuliani has injected himself into the stories to push his racist viewpoints.

We first called attention to this when he asserted that the black community was responsible for any and all violence and crime committed by any black person, a standard he certainly doesn’t hold white people to. We even highlighted Ta-Nehisi Coates well-deserved mocking of Giuliani’s argument.

Then a month later we highlighted how Giuliani blamed Obama and peaceful protesters of racist police shooting for the death of two policemen.

But Giuliani hasn’t stopped there. In a fundraiser for Scott Walker, Giuliani told the crowd:

“I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America,” Giuliani said, as quoted by Politico. “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.

He later goes on to say: "What the hell? What’s wrong with this man that he can’t stand up and say there’s a part of Islam that’s sick?” This goes back to the recent nonsense over Obama pointing out that Christianity also has a history of extremist violence at the National Prayer Breakfast. And if you can’t see what’s wrong with that argument, here’s what Digby had to say:

I don’t know.  I guess for the same reason he doesn’t stand up and say that there’s part of Catholicism that’s sick. After all, the Catholic priesthood has been crawling with child molesters for decades. For all we know, centuries.  I’m going to take a guess that as a Catholic he doesn’t think it would be right to tar the vast majority of non-pedophile Catholics with the actions of those priests or define the religion itself as a pedophiliac belief system.

I think she does a good job of pointing out how Giuliani lumps together groups to take responsibility for the worst of their members, but then doesn’t apply the same responsibility to the groups that he is a member.

But back to Giuliani’s Obama doesn’t love America and wasn’t raised right argument, I think the real question is for Giuliani:

  • Loves America how, Rudy? Like you do– only the white parts? The love that blames every black person for the crimes of a few black people, a standard you don’t hold white people to?
  • Not brought up the way you were? To what– be racist? To trample people’s rights in the name of security?

Of course Giuliani isn’t going to answer questions like that. His statements are dog-whistles to his audience about how Obama isn’t like us, he’s an outsider. Obama is black, we get it. Never mind that Obama’s mother was every bit as white as Giuliani’s mother. Nope. Doesn’t matter to Giuliani. And for that, Giuliani is the Asshole of the Day.

UPDATE: เล่นสล็อตออนไลน์ลุ้นรางวัลใหญ่Giuliani claims it’s not racist because Obama’s mother is white. Seriously:

“Some people thought it was racist — I thought that was a joke, since he was brought up by a white mother, a white grandfather, went to white schools, and most of this he learned from white people,” Mr. Giuliani said in the interview. “This isn’t racism. This is socialism or possibly anti-colonialism.”

Sorry, Rudy, but let’s not pretend there’s no history of racism against people who are only half black. It insults us both.

It is Rudy Giuliani’s third time as Asshole of the Day.

Rudy Giuliani, Asshole of the Day for December 22, 2014

As Dick Cheney is to torture, Rudy Giuliani is to police brutality. No one has done more to create the problem. And no one is as determined to deny it exists at any cost. No one has done more to create the culture in which the cops New Yorkers hire to protect and serve them are somehow seen as “above the law” than Rudy Giuliani.

Of course, Giuliani’s ghoulish, knee-jerk reaction to the execution of two NYPD officers by a deranged gunman in which he blamed everyone from President Obama to Eric Holder to Al Sharpton was, at this point, as predictable as it was disgusting. As anger has risen at the grand jury verdicts in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases, President Obama has consistently denounced violence as unacceptable (as have other officials, including Mayor de Blasio).

But it’s worth reiterating the extent to which Giuliani’s playing the “blame game” in a hypocritical, racially biased, politically motivated way. As Kevin Drum pointed out in Mother Jones yesterday, Giuliani’s logic would make Sean Hannity responsible for the execution of two cops earlier this year by racist supporter of Cliven Bundy…. Bill O'Reilly responsible for the murder of abortion provider George Tiller… conservative talk radio for inspiring Timothy McVeigh to bomb a federal building in Oklahoma City… and the list goes on.

Rudy Giuliani likes to think he’s “America’s Mayor.” But based on the divisive racial nonsense he keeps spewing, that’s about as true as saying Cliven Bundy is “America’s Rancher.”

Today the AP announced that news editors had voted the police killings of unarmed blacks as the top news story of the year. It’s a problem that must be acknowledged, talked about and addressed as Obama, Holder, and Sharpton have been willing to do. It’s a problem that people have a right to protest for as long as it takes for change to happen and for justice to be served.

Three weeks ago, Rudy Giuliani was our Asshole of the Day for saying the black community is responsible for the crimes committed by blacks (something he has never suggested the white community is responsible for).

Now, for stepping into a tense situation in such a reckless and inflammatory way, he’s once again Asshole of the Day.

Rudy Giuliani blames Obama for police shooting

We were thinking about declaring Rudy Giuliani the Asshole Of The Day but I see Mother Jones has beaten us to it:

The former mayor also criticized President Barack Obama, Holder, and Al Sharpton for addressing the underlining racial tensions behind the failure to indict the white police officers who killed [Eric Garner on Staten Island] and Mike Brown in Ferguson. “They have created an atmosphere of severe, strong, anti-police hatred in certain communities. For that, they should be ashamed of themselves,” he said.

Fair enough. But I assume this means we can blame Bill O'Reilly for his 28 episodes of invective against “Tiller the Baby Killer” that eventually ended in the murder of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller by anti-abortion activist Scott Roeder. We can blame conservative talk radio for stoking the anti-government paranoia that led Timothy McVeigh to bomb a federal building in Oklahoma City. We can blame the relentless xenophobia of Fox News for the bombing of an Islamic Center in Joplin or the massacre of Sikh worshippers by a white supremacist in Wisconsin. We can blame the NRA for the mass shootings in Newtown and Aurora….

The list goes on. I encourage you to see read the whole post.

Rudy Giuliani, Asshole of the Day for December 1, 2014

by TeaPartyCat ()

Rudy Giuliani just won’t shut up. A week ago he pulled out the “black on black crime” mantra, as a way to deflect attention from police shootings, for which he was justifiably mocked. But he didn’t stop there. Yesterday he was on Fox News telling people that, sure police could do a better job, but it’s mostly African American’s fault:

Responding to a grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday that the black community is more responsible for the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police than the officers themselves.

“I do believe that there is more interaction and more unfair interaction between police officers, white and black,” he admitted during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. “But I think just as much, if not more, responsibility is on the black community to reduce the reason why the police officers are assigned in such large numbers to the black community. It’s because blacks commit murder eight times more per capita than any other group in our society.

More responsibility is on the black community to reduce crime than on the police. It sounds fine, and I’m sure it makes perfect sense to the viewers on Fox News, or really any racist who wants to blame African Americans for their problems and excuse themselves and America at large for not doing anything.

But it’s bullshit, and here’s why:

  1. A white man living in an all white neighborhood isn’t responsible for stopping his white neighbors from murdering each other, or committing crimes generally.
  2. But, according to Giuliani, the “black community” is responsible for reducing crime committed by black people. So all blacks are responsible for any individual crime committed by a black person.

And that’s not a subtelty– that’s the whole argument that he and all the other “black on black crime” people are all making. Black people are responsible for other black people, but white people aren’t responsible for the actions of white people. That’s racism, plain and simple.

So, for applying a different standard of responsibility for crime for blacks than for whites, Rudy Giuliani is the Asshole of the Day.

It is Rudy Giuliani’s first time being named Asshole of the Day.

“Black on Black crime” and Rudy Giuliani

image

Several people wrote in to highlight Rudy Giuliani’s comments on Meet The Press about the Darren Wilson case:

The fact is that I find it very disappointing that you’re not discussing the fact that 93 percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks. We are talking about the significant exception here [in the Brown case]. I’d like to see the attention paid to that that you are paying to this.

But before we could write it up, we see that Ta-Nehisi Coates has beaten us to it with this:

For nearly 15 years, our politicians have told us that murder perpetrated by Islamic terrorists represented an existential threat to the country. From al-Qaeda to ISIS, we are told that radical Islam is a killer that will drive us all into the sea. In fact, however, the most prolific killer of Americans hides behind a cloak of sensitivity and political correctness. The time has now come for some tough talk: The American people have one of the highest murder rates in the industrialized world. Almost all of these people are killed by other Americans. War hustlers and Bin Laden pimps love to go around screaming, but 9/11! Three thousand people died on 9/11. Nearly 15,000 Americans were killed in 2012. Americans perpetrate roughly five 9/11s against other Americans every year. By the end of this week, more Americans will be killed by other Americans than were ever killed by ISIS.

Why are our politicians ignoring this plague of American-on-American crime? Why are American leaders not protesting the cult of death that fills the graveyards of America? Who will bravely challenge the culture of failure that says that Americans should only be outraged when Muslims kill Americans? Who will challenge the American pathology that says that a boy who walks unarmed is acting French?

Read the whole thing. It’s worth it to finally have an answer to the black-on-black crime nonsense.
